"Revival" (復活) is the first 'episode' of Yu-Gi-Oh 2050. It was first released on October 6th, 2019 alongside Episode 0 on Fanfiction.net in a light novel format, though, has been rewritten in our new (heavily non-standard) screenplay format. It is an homage to the first episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, following its same premise.BRIEF SUMMARY: 15 years after the end of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (Anime), the game of Duel Monsters has grown to be a household name across the entire face of the planet. Years before now, a corporate merger between Industrial Illusions and Kaiba Corporation resulted in the downfall of the National Duelist Alliance, yet, several indie commissions and outlaw duelling promotions have caused resurged interest in game of Duel Monsters as a profession.Kagami Yuusuke is a candidate to enter the new flagship branch of Seto Kaiba's Duel Academy, the first one owned and operated by the man who started the Duel Academy initiatives in almost 25 years. With that, he must take an entrance exam to qualify, and on his way there, he encounters Jaden Yuki, closely mirroring a scene played out several decades prior.
SOME TIDBITS BEFORE YOU READ:
- This chapter was originally released on the 15th Anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh GX's first episode, and mirrors it as an homage.
- Episode 0 was included as a cold-open and takes place ten years before episode 1. It has a much colder and manga-esque tone that the following episodes would come to match.
- The prelude at the beginning of the chapter very transparently alludes to how Yugi dies before the series begins proper.
- Though this starts with an episode that is an homage to GX's first episode, the subsequent episodes immediately depart from homages, and instead, follow their own narrative format that is much more western in its style, tone and approach to better match the setting.IMPORTANT CHARACTERS.
